Conservation-friendly policies are, in the long term, one of the most effective ways to preserve habitat and protect wildlife. We encourage you to consider adding your support to such policies that are important to you and your love for birds and wildlife. Here are links to legislative actions on local conservation related issues for you to consider. Links contain pre-written letters. It is always more effective if you can personalize your message.

3/7/2023 Ask your elected representatives to support the Migratory Bird Protection Act (MBPA). The MBPA would strengthen protections against industrial hazards, which kill about 1 million birds a year. It would work by establishing a permit system and requiring mitigation practices such as screens on oil pits, and turning off tower lights. UPDATE 6/15/2022 - The U.S. House of Representatives PASSED Recovering America’s Wildlife Act in a 231-190 vote. Read the NPR article about what this means for wildlife here. 6/5/2022: The Fostering Overseas Rule of Law and Environmentally Sound Trade Act of 2021 (FOREST Act S 2950/HR 5508) is a bipartisan supported bill that has been introduced to both the House and Senate. It seeks to limit the importation of illegally harvested agricultural products including palm oil, meat, timber, and soy. If passed, it would require companies to trace where their products are coming from and confirm they are legally harvested. Over 40 wildlife and conservation groups support this bill. 5/13/2022: Multiple scientific assessments have concluded that dams on the lower Snake River need to be removed in order to restore salmon and steelhead populations. Read the Trout Unlimited assessment here and contact your Senators telling them that bold action is needed.

5/13/2022: Bipartisan federal legislation introduced to help bring birds back! Increased funding through the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act would benefit more than 350 bird species. Read more here and contact Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray asking them to support SB 4187, the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancement Act.
