Woodpeckers of the Little Pend Oreille NWR

With Mike Munts

Ten species of woodpeckers are known to occur at Little Pend Oreille NWR. I will explore basic biology and identification of each species. I will also discuss the time of year and areas of the refuge where each species might be located and tips for finding them.

Mike Munts is the wildlife biologist at Little Pend Oreille National Wildlife Refuge. Mike has done research on Great Gray and Western Screech Owls in Idaho and songbirds in Western Montana. He grew up in the Idaho Panhandle and has been birding and studying birds in various parts of the Inland Northwest for more than 25 years. He has worked for National Park and National Wildlife refuge systems in Washington and Idaho for 20 years.
